Project Description: Environmental Auditing

Client:
Hills Minerals and Waste Limited

Introduction

Environmental and Compliance auditing can provide industry managers with essential feedback on their company's performance against relevant legislation or internal standards. This can be carried out as part of a legal obligation, or can be commissioned by the company to help develop improved management systems.
Auditing can also provide valuable information on the efficiency and quality of site operations and management systems, and help future decision-making.

Project Brief

Egniol were approached by Hills Minerals and Waste Limited to conduct a number of Environmental Audits of their waste management facilities. These were to be carried out as part of a commitment to continuous improvement within the company, which in recent years has seen the implementation of an internal Environmental Management System encompassing the objectives of the ISO 14001 accreditation.

The Environmental Audits comprised:

  • Site Visit
  • Interviews with staff
  • Assessment of data
  • Environmental Performance Indicator assessment

In addition to the site audits, Hills commissioned an EMS Gap Analysis to provide independent assessment their own internal EMS against those required for ISO 14001

Project Delivery

Key issues were assessed during the audits to provide clear performance indicators for each site, with results showing an overall improvement in the performance of those facilities audited.
