Our team is able to provide a staged assessment of air quality affects of industrial activities. Such assessment can be tailored to the specific needs of clients and include one or several of the following elements:

initial risk assessment and surveys of odour, dust, pollution & nuisance;
ambient air quality monitoring (particles, including PM10/2.5,NOx SO2, CO, hydrocarbons, NH3,, H2S)
workplace air quality monitoring and COSHH assessment;
atmospheric dispersion modelling and prediction of ground level concentrations of pollutants and odour nuisance;
design of landfill gas and odour management plans;
implementation of landfill gas monitoring plans;
air quality impact assessment in support of planning and IPPC applications.

The contribution of actual or proposed sources of emissions to air can be modelled to predict impacts on the surrounding environment and human health in particular. These procedures form fundamental parts of any assessment of potential Environmental Impacts, as required by current Planning and Permitting processes.

We undertake air quality modelling using the latest AERMOD software package, which is recommended by the Environment
Agency. The model uses “new generation” meteorology, and takes into account building downwash and terrain elevation factors. Percentiles of hourly or daily mean concentrations can be calculated for comparison with the National Air Quality Objectives or any international criteria. Results are shown as contour maps overlain on base maps to clearly demonstrate the areas affected by pollutants. This enables us to predict ground level concentrations of air pollutants and odour levels arising from:

• point sources, such as chimneys,
• linear sources, such as roads,
• area sources, such as landfill sites, compost sites and lagoons,
• accidental and fugitive releases.
