Economic planning and development proposals frequently require risk-based solutions. Assessment of environmental risk is a complex subject, which is incorporated in environmental legislation and statutory guidance documents.

We specialise in the production of qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, and routinely undertake them either as part of larger commissions or as separate studies, in the following fields :-
Site investigation.
Land remediation.
Due-diligence auditing.
Construction activity reviews.
Waste management reviews.
Air quality, including Local Exhaust Ventilation System (LEVS) monitoring, and landfill gas risk assessments. GasSim and dispersion modeling (AERMOD).
Water quality, discharge consent management.
Hydrological and hydrogeological risk assessments.
COSHH assessments.
Personal exposure limit monitoring.
Where appropriate, the process involves qualitative and quantitative environmental risk assessment with respect to any potential sensitive receptors, such as humans, controlled waters, flora and fauna, and the built environment.

For projects requiring quantitative risk assessment, our team is experienced in the use of the following risk assessment models : -

SNIFFER
a technical quantitative method of deriving site specific numeric targets for contaminants in soil to evaluate human health risks from chronic exposure to contaminants; this method is widely used in the UK and is approved by the Environment Agency.
CIRIA Report C552
a semi-quantitative method for assessment of contaminated land; it is based on the industry accepted “source-pathway-receptor” scenario for estimation and evaluation of risk, in order to determine the significance of risk for chosen sensitive receptors.
