Quarrying is a major industry, with over 1,300 extractive
sites in the U.K. Approximately 200 million tonnes
of aggregates are quarried and dredged each year in
Great Britain.
In addition over 50 million tonnes of recycled materials
are used each year in aggregates markets.
Aggregates are a combination of crushed rock and
sand & gravel and are used to make value added
products such as asphalt, lime, concrete and mortar.
